I'm to be married August 18th to the man who has fulfilled every wish I ever had for a husband. At the risk of gushing, he truly is the man of my dreams.<br />
We've planned a Victorian style wedding which makes the traditional white dress from the bridal shop a not going to happen. Instead I have grand plans of making my own gown, and the pattens of which I will be using arrived today. Now I just need to start panicking about fabric. I can't find the perfect shade of iridescent peacock blue/green, but when I found an "it will do" shade, it ended up being $40 dollars a yard. (Falls into faint, somebody bring the smelling salts!) Oh, did I mention that I need 12 yards of one color and 5 of another? So the search continues...until I panic and decide I may as well pay the $40.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I wanted to share these wonderful patterns that I got from <a href="http://www.trulyvictorian.net/tvxcart/home.php">Truly Victorian</a>. Their patterns are historically correct while being modified to come together rather easily. The patterns are provided on thick butcher paper with a multitude of sizes available and are fairly reasonably priced as far as non-mass market patterns go. Pardon my blurry photos while I show you what I've got to look forward to.<br />

I'll be altering this to just have a hint of ruffle and flower at the straps rather than sleeves. I want my neckline rather simple because one of my "borrowed" items is going to be vintage pearls from Lewis' side of the family. <br />

This is the butterfly bustle that I'm going to wear for the ceremony. It's completely detachable so it will get taken off and replaced with an over skirt (of which I forgot to take pictures of) for the celebrating afterwards to make it more convenient. <br />
I wish I could find the fabric for it so I can get to work, but at least I can start the petticoats. More wedding preparations to follow. <br />

Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of the full quilt due to space restrictions but trust me that it turned out quite cute on the whole.<br />

Just from me carting it around to work on it, it had developed dirty spots. Too late though, I'd already promised it. I ended up feeling the need to wash it though before gifting and was so glad I did, it crinkled up nicely, hiding any quilting mishaps that may...or may not have occurred. After I took it out of the dryer I didn't want to give it away I liked it so much. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Too cute, and just perfect for a little boy. <br />
So there is my first finished quilt for 2012. Hope you like. <br />

So, high time I get this finished right? Right!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA0HhVvHXQU0qnWTIMtE9VhkrqSziheNMmZtsBTH01YHTcHlh8YbK9N45vp4viuFJnXSXjBeWbsbhh0aup7IfwUEQAwMGWvnGDMTI6iTlHyFoIOQ8SAhWZ6yh26AReRa_UWzlbKRW8cn5b/s1600/IMG_4912.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA0HhVvHXQU0qnWTIMtE9VhkrqSziheNMmZtsBTH01YHTcHlh8YbK9N45vp4viuFJnXSXjBeWbsbhh0aup7IfwUEQAwMGWvnGDMTI6iTlHyFoIOQ8SAhWZ6yh26AReRa_UWzlbKRW8cn5b/s320/IMG_4912.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5467284958935635987.post-82747159112889455522011-12-14T11:29:00.001-07:002011-12-14T11:29:00.114-07:00Finished braceletI mentioned a while back that I was working on a bracelet. I finished it a while back but never posted the finished product. Here it is in all it's glory. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZBlShyPtBbFdK77sVwkX9XoSlGeX9LDCq2WP0Yyhq9SUVClTXLW7fDivxxkVc_VZ_a7YFYxteSIKjcpokKQ2Wb-S_0B9s6sfPn26B01wS-849vtk1FCtHtQpWYjrnNNqtyphyphenhyphenQesWtcko/s1600/IMG_4793.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZBlShyPtBbFdK77sVwkX9XoSlGeX9LDCq2WP0Yyhq9SUVClTXLW7fDivxxkVc_VZ_a7YFYxteSIKjcpokKQ2Wb-S_0B9s6sfPn26B01wS-849vtk1FCtHtQpWYjrnNNqtyphyphenhyphenQesWtcko/s320/IMG_4793.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I can't recall the exact name of the pattern and I'm too lazy to go find it but it had something to do with shutters and used Tila beads. I really like how it turned out. <br />

I discovered that it was her way of hinting that I needed to get my knitting needles out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkgVtt4lgF9Ka0WwPfWDQHvB8IRfpIFcsdW6CB8L5BztmaQE_jiAn8PhJemci4aHZO2Kaf-wWcSyCIcS53LA6yFmtrwOt4tUGQwwJ973o-zGRwaDN-IhvCZ3awrtos7GUAfHSYwdfSDvXb/s1600/IMG_4796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkgVtt4lgF9Ka0WwPfWDQHvB8IRfpIFcsdW6CB8L5BztmaQE_jiAn8PhJemci4aHZO2Kaf-wWcSyCIcS53LA6yFmtrwOt4tUGQwwJ973o-zGRwaDN-IhvCZ3awrtos7GUAfHSYwdfSDvXb/s320/IMG_4796.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
She had a specific idea on what she wanted to keep her hands warm, either a pair of knitted gloves or mittens with flaps so she could have her fingers free if needs be. Not feeling up to the task of knitting ten fingers I vetoed the gloves but rather liked the latter idea which we have dubbed as flittens.<br />
The two of us snuggled up on the bed one night and did a search on Ravelry and found a pattern that suited both of us. Me for simplicity and her for looks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi40Za_JIrVBD-hDEt0mdjY_x_QdLZ5wQ2A_UwZdhtsY1Q88KCu1_ZmHhEL1BPFuHTrDqfh-mdDl42MtEGDXxAwFhSOpDXVMgNye1I5aDvG1OabrGvJ8k-bDvKuYs_4rgztL08oT53dKAy/s1600/IMG_4798.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi40Za_JIrVBD-hDEt0mdjY_x_QdLZ5wQ2A_UwZdhtsY1Q88KCu1_ZmHhEL1BPFuHTrDqfh-mdDl42MtEGDXxAwFhSOpDXVMgNye1I5aDvG1OabrGvJ8k-bDvKuYs_4rgztL08oT53dKAy/s320/IMG_4798.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I used Red Heart Soft yarn in Teal on three size 4 needles to make these. It's worked up really easily and I only split the ply in a couple of places. They're about done, I just need to finish the flaps. I've managed to injure my arm at work. Honestly I think I have tennis elbow from pulling and pushing bolts of fabric around all day. I've no time nor $$ for the Dr. right now so I'm wrapping it and icing it. I have to moderate my projects so I don't put any further strain on my arm so projects aren't going nearly as quickly as I would like. <br />
I came across a heavyweight woven cotton at work that isn't quite right for quilts. I know it will be overlooked, so I thought a quick project to turn it into something useful would be rather fun.<br />

A re-useable shopping bag from a half yard of fabric. Simple to make with two side seams, two strap seams and the edge finishing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSvq__98CKOSYyN0GXKKcOkIeJd9bbSaeuGuEFlWKvmGIGmKroMfaBDLuenV-vp71oVby8XlneX5sLTKozqG-BptG1iko7m6TubZH60O2f9RUfzvuqrSQ5KQmhkt7nPmWU8rW1QwabK39w/s1600/IMG_4673.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSvq__98CKOSYyN0GXKKcOkIeJd9bbSaeuGuEFlWKvmGIGmKroMfaBDLuenV-vp71oVby8XlneX5sLTKozqG-BptG1iko7m6TubZH60O2f9RUfzvuqrSQ5KQmhkt7nPmWU8rW1QwabK39w/s320/IMG_4673.JPG" width="240" /></a></div> What makes it look a bit fancier is the fact that I used some wooly poly and a rolled hem on the serger to create the edge "folds" <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHjVq-b26cJEQ0N5aW1TpGukjHfY4um4f0zNTdp1ebmnLt5AymlwSXKzqRt5MuNCfk-nwkdfmsFsGfB8L20cq8HWC7OBTmjg3F1az-wNuSy-jDEgwTieVU_fJmJBu9KKgqOoUlWVqhuV0b/s1600/IMG_4674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHjVq-b26cJEQ0N5aW1TpGukjHfY4um4f0zNTdp1ebmnLt5AymlwSXKzqRt5MuNCfk-nwkdfmsFsGfB8L20cq8HWC7OBTmjg3F1az-wNuSy-jDEgwTieVU_fJmJBu9KKgqOoUlWVqhuV0b/s320/IMG_4674.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>A bit of pressing and ta-da, it looks every bit as good, if not better as one you buy from the store. I still need to work out something stiff to put in the bottom though, I have an abundance of cardboard but don't like how it breaks so easily. Any ideas?Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5467284958935635987.post-59466110507257699032011-11-06T09:28:00.001-07:002011-11-06T09:28:00.231-07:00Current ProjectOk, because <a href="http://abrandiecreation.blogspot.com/">Brandie </a>in her genius is inspiring and to prove that I am not without a current sewing project I introduce you to Sunbonnet Sue.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNN_ra0sJrigGXNPP4iOsceLUpQy5GjEmkgul_JMM-dDnwpkT_V-xH9RbXkuM_6Q8KY2cUSqFhhAq1M7dfsjAtJbAQW0cPeQvOZkB6XoYgCaqaXEBrkGIylIUjwUbrns-V47GIEiTC_8wz/s1600/IMG_4445.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNN_ra0sJrigGXNPP4iOsceLUpQy5GjEmkgul_JMM-dDnwpkT_V-xH9RbXkuM_6Q8KY2cUSqFhhAq1M7dfsjAtJbAQW0cPeQvOZkB6XoYgCaqaXEBrkGIylIUjwUbrns-V47GIEiTC_8wz/s320/IMG_4445.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Once again I am getting pictures with horrid lights. That's one of my issues with this time of year (I have a few issues with it), by the time I get home and get sewing done it's dark. The colors aren't nearly this dark in real life. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQN9y2t7PtcRVuwzDUIgcdpNvsPCGY0MWUBunhMzE52kYaP5N-dl5ViRcm8MuZjMhrTcGlo0F5QIXvskX9DeIbinDLv3RyHYOm-nGSmrI5cdqzkTo-rGGqfFJBkoRkM4Aw1RXk0gEHISOv/s1600/IMG_4442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQN9y2t7PtcRVuwzDUIgcdpNvsPCGY0MWUBunhMzE52kYaP5N-dl5ViRcm8MuZjMhrTcGlo0F5QIXvskX9DeIbinDLv3RyHYOm-nGSmrI5cdqzkTo-rGGqfFJBkoRkM4Aw1RXk0gEHISOv/s320/IMG_4442.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Here's my planned layout at the moment. I will admit that I borrowed this whole idea from a lady at work who made a darling version. Can I just offer up a halleluja and praise be for the Go! Cutter? If I had to cut out each girl with scissors...I wouldn't. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb6FCMwIh7QemWCCQz2QLQzP-QuU5pfHeHMyXlletwAqDQt_Ev8MmsI3f7Q7II_ySaQahcnqqX2f0gD8tbIsRFKbCsrMIopZSggWsZbmtLDy15GD-hKz-XTCUJRbka5-DW42yS19XtTIay/s1600/IMG_4443.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb6FCMwIh7QemWCCQz2QLQzP-QuU5pfHeHMyXlletwAqDQt_Ev8MmsI3f7Q7II_ySaQahcnqqX2f0gD8tbIsRFKbCsrMIopZSggWsZbmtLDy15GD-hKz-XTCUJRbka5-DW42yS19XtTIay/s320/IMG_4443.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I've used about 50/50 scraps and new fabrics. They all have fusible, some with Heat n' Bond and some with Steam a Seam 2. Personal experience tells me that the latter is far superior for this application and although it's significantly more expensive it is well worth it. <br />

More to come on these little ladies. </div>Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5467284958935635987.post-84096864731356308522011-11-04T08:53:00.014-06:002011-11-04T08:53:00.250-06:00Beads!Given the length of time it takes me to complete one project, I need another like I need another pet, but when I happened upon a bead store I had not known about up until now I just couldn't resist stopping in. Big mistake, but I'm so glad I did.<br />
They have monthly projects that if you buy the supplies from them, they'll do one on one instructions with you for free. Check out these adorable bracelets that they had for the month of October. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaARMDStZpWliwVxCpmrVcXsR55qZc9sXHnU385uy5r8DVdzfjpjQ4Dbv1UqHZcSi0ne8N6DkBqM0GL3gwNVGtJTk1KKVTPQ2k8IYz3EyiaMdg_vFO19OcGUsN5QQgW0TkU9FDbH93I8_q/s1600/IMG_4517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaARMDStZpWliwVxCpmrVcXsR55qZc9sXHnU385uy5r8DVdzfjpjQ4Dbv1UqHZcSi0ne8N6DkBqM0GL3gwNVGtJTk1KKVTPQ2k8IYz3EyiaMdg_vFO19OcGUsN5QQgW0TkU9FDbH93I8_q/s320/IMG_4517.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> The pattern is called Shut the Shutters and they're made with Tila beads, flat beads with two holes and tiny size 15 seed beads. The clasp is a beaded loop and a fancy button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx5mohSgaumoCcu2S9svoz5ye3Et2bOJAfDXajQnC34DZt9CTS9AMf-Bja_D2QbemJdphggqyA-gNOqPUmcykIC4jREqtle9uxeBV_Z6o5FjAtf1U6MZ2vpnV8oVxTcl5cGYqNN68lDVMT/s1600/IMG_4518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx5mohSgaumoCcu2S9svoz5ye3Et2bOJAfDXajQnC34DZt9CTS9AMf-Bja_D2QbemJdphggqyA-gNOqPUmcykIC4jREqtle9uxeBV_Z6o5FjAtf1U6MZ2vpnV8oVxTcl5cGYqNN68lDVMT/s320/IMG_4518.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I fell in love with this green one but decided to go with a more sedate look for my first attempt. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSr23hZP_B0EhZ9khPUYlA3IqfvnPbxuYBk4JJgqoU07MyeYKnkSaXqH7oDXw_MWZtE95dyNCh_IQQ4bdg-n2v0cWxa8IKLkx30_DVGaofHnEpQFwUpdbvKOo4EO0hkRsHSh3FryJ3rPuY/s1600/IMG_4532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSr23hZP_B0EhZ9khPUYlA3IqfvnPbxuYBk4JJgqoU07MyeYKnkSaXqH7oDXw_MWZtE95dyNCh_IQQ4bdg-n2v0cWxa8IKLkx30_DVGaofHnEpQFwUpdbvKOo4EO0hkRsHSh3FryJ3rPuY/s320/IMG_4532.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
They work up fairly quickly. Here are our efforts so far, Alayssa's is the natural one. Sorry about the poor picture quality, night pics are never pretty but if I wait until daylight to post it won't happen. <br />
I'm hooked and I'm excited for Novembers project as well as some of the classes they offer. Want to see what November's project will be? <br />

I love necklaces...even if I hardly ever wear them. I love these gorgeous fall colors, these necklaces are made with seed beads and crystals.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFN4FyCpuVraufk76wHbAunOwqLUDXO-D3fIIR0UzDKmNg8PcVXqa9aH3z_p2ilRZUcckYVL9WSEKcxQRcnID7mwvPvV1gHNv9HzeI794Ar_ZHKbDeNKD1EwNnYPvvunLdiKj1hyphenhyphen8RV6fg/s1600/IMG_4521.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFN4FyCpuVraufk76wHbAunOwqLUDXO-D3fIIR0UzDKmNg8PcVXqa9aH3z_p2ilRZUcckYVL9WSEKcxQRcnID7mwvPvV1gHNv9HzeI794Ar_ZHKbDeNKD1EwNnYPvvunLdiKj1hyphenhyphen8RV6fg/s320/IMG_4521.JPG" width="240" /></a></div> Another favorite color combination, it makes me think of grape vines (and wine!)<br />

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my little quilt show. It was so amazing to get to see these in person and hold them. I've got lots of ideas, now to see how far the ideas go!<br />

The big one is on Saturdays which means I usually don't get to go since I work and it's not as fun because it's so crowded that you're elbow to elbow with the crowd and get pushed along in mass so it's difficult to enjoy yourself. <br />
Rather late in the season we discovered a mid size one that had probably fifty vendors and isn't as well known which made it much more fun. The best thing was it was held on Sundays and at <a href="http://www.wheelerfarm.com/history/history01.html">Wheeler Farm</a>, a functional farm in the middle of the city. It's a taste (smell) of my childhood home. The Farmers Market had their last day this Sunday, but the farm is still open.<br />

So, here is proof that I do actually finish a project here and there. <br />
My Florentine Fancy wall quilt has actually been done for a while, and is currently hanging on the wall of my quilt shop. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI8lDA6JncMg4DE6R8_tYetp9NUtAJx4K7KFAxYwCsxwILmH73x4pfpH1wyZpaZXzEOW6e_JhgITcsvDCMPHTkxRUKzoAb5Ce8VhvemfJ8waI9AwcEgwurrrnN4bgZQeF79AJ33r0nxixo/s1600/IMG_4114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI8lDA6JncMg4DE6R8_tYetp9NUtAJx4K7KFAxYwCsxwILmH73x4pfpH1wyZpaZXzEOW6e_JhgITcsvDCMPHTkxRUKzoAb5Ce8VhvemfJ8waI9AwcEgwurrrnN4bgZQeF79AJ33r0nxixo/s320/IMG_4114.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> It's still really busy, but it looks much better from a distance. <br />

So yesterday I decided to buckle down and get it done.<br />
I had left the kitchen to get something and when I came back this is what I saw. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMsE2CNcDV1WrKImwP6vlgLssBTw3OyIQt9bAkmZnqHCDx9WI8ZbfO0w_0jLhdN2hTxFbRTlTxlvo3u6YBXKIL1q2_ZmhlFjUNaoiGOv_dFegag6K44DqJgOSY8KwjEU0ZN_5aHJXEEabq/s1600/IMG_4188.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMsE2CNcDV1WrKImwP6vlgLssBTw3OyIQt9bAkmZnqHCDx9WI8ZbfO0w_0jLhdN2hTxFbRTlTxlvo3u6YBXKIL1q2_ZmhlFjUNaoiGOv_dFegag6K44DqJgOSY8KwjEU0ZN_5aHJXEEabq/s320/IMG_4188.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Hrmmmm, do you think she's trying to tell me something?<br />
<br />
<br />
*Please note, this was before the cleaning took place.<br />
*Also note, I don't make it a habit of having my chickens in the house, but the back door was open to let in some fresh air and she apparently saw that as an invitation. You know, when you're so worn down that the only things you're capable of are the most basic? That's been me. That finally ended last weekend and I've been trying to get my head above water since. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK6fSnFLLhk513UyP3tPlGauzqpd3gndlwmWFgZylJaYC508HAlnITwPrKz0ow6yf9FRf8uHliTM0Oute6037BIkbawJPPHLpRj7rbyg2_gi_bYRTF2GcxDWLaFxlGhZyfFanXTdStQmIt/s1600/IMG_4150.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><br />
My wonderful sweetie decided that I needed a break so he took me to the family cabin for a couple of days. We spent most of the day in bed watching Star Trek The Next Generation and eating junk food. I probably gained 5 pounds, but it was perfect, just what I needed! Would you like to see? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK6fSnFLLhk513UyP3tPlGauzqpd3gndlwmWFgZylJaYC508HAlnITwPrKz0ow6yf9FRf8uHliTM0Oute6037BIkbawJPPHLpRj7rbyg2_gi_bYRTF2GcxDWLaFxlGhZyfFanXTdStQmIt/s1600/IMG_4150.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK6fSnFLLhk513UyP3tPlGauzqpd3gndlwmWFgZylJaYC508HAlnITwPrKz0ow6yf9FRf8uHliTM0Oute6037BIkbawJPPHLpRj7rbyg2_gi_bYRTF2GcxDWLaFxlGhZyfFanXTdStQmIt/s320/IMG_4150.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Here is the cabin, nestled amid the trees that are just beginning to change colors. I'd say it's not more than twenty feet from the river. <br />

It just seems so wrong to be laid up and sick during the summer. I'm just grateful that I don't have to try and work today or tomorrow. Meanwhile, Lewis has given me strict orders to remain in bed except for food and bathroom breaks. Here are some of the things that I can't live without today.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I'll be honest, I've never been a thimble wearer. My mother always used one for hand sewing but I've never done a lot of hand sewing so had no occasion to do so. Yesterday though, while waiting in the Dr.'s office I was working on a hand sewing project... when I came home I spent the next hour or so hunting down my thimble. This one I picked up at an estate sale in California and it fits perfectly. It's my new best friend. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And finally, a project to work on. This is my Florentine Fancy quilt that I am finally binding. I've got two edges done and two more to go. I hope I don't regret it later but I couldn't find any red cotton thread and I'm not going out sick, so I'm using Rayon. Good thing it's a wall hanging. </td></tr>

It's the voice of my little girl, before this young woman made her appearance. I hover over her bed listening to the sweet mumblings that only her dreams can decipher until I hear "I love you momma." That I understand most clearly. <br />
This night, as I lean over to kiss my little girl goodnight, I forget for a moment that I've only two years until she's an adult and graduating. For now her face is soft and relaxed in sleep and so childlike in the shadows of the night. Come morning she will begin her junior year of high school and be one more step closer to adult hood, but tonight, tonight she is my baby and as the memories flood through my mind, I catch a tear before it can land on her cheek and wake her fully, then kiss her softly and whisper "I love you too baby." Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5467284958935635987.post-17274618514514055792011-08-22T09:37:00.000-06:002011-08-22T09:37:50.094-06:00Playing Catch Up on AugustI'm pooped. I know this is so not whine worthy to those of you that regularly work eight hours a day Monday-Friday, but I signed up for a part time gig and my little tootsies aren't used to that. The week before last was a nine day work week with 8-9 hour days, last week was a four day work week of the same hours of but I also started school full time.This week I have to work 5 days of "long" hours but still have my school. *Sigh* <br />
The great news is that all this extra time hit right when the Jeep broke down so yay, it will help pay for that, and who doesn't like a little extra cash in the pockets? I know I do.<br />
<br />
So last week, I walk in the door after work to a horrendous crash in my sewing/craft room. Open the door...my big 7 foot shelf that's been up for years and is where I keep books, fabric & craft supplies has fallen, pretty sure there's broken glass from the lamps and other stuff under the shelf, not an inch of floor space to be seen, just a massive mess.<span style="font-size: small;"><span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}"> I didn't cry, but between school and work I couldn't deal with it right then, so I turned around and pulled the door closed. I haven't used my sewing room since... Hopefully this week despite the same time sucking issues I can get that cleaned up and back into my sewing room. I'm running out of time on my Carpenters Star and really don't want to use another machine since using multiple machines can give you a wobbly flimsy. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">I know, this has been a picturless and rather boring post, so to fix that here's a little something to brighten it up. I'll be working on it more today and hopefully finishing it tomorrow. (Thank goodness it's small)</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5bLiZ4p_1WKU9voTxrkN0UOgxTGVXhDXXK4agcP97FKRl3GSJQBaYb5F88-03YsE9v7JQ4ie4Fb9i43SrBbDGvWOQyVdRO298KzTk2ROSliaI5eK6E7S4buVWIwt8X2kP5pNPpXpmLiuU/s1600/IMG_3958.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5bLiZ4p_1WKU9voTxrkN0UOgxTGVXhDXXK4agcP97FKRl3GSJQBaYb5F88-03YsE9v7JQ4ie4Fb9i43SrBbDGvWOQyVdRO298KzTk2ROSliaI5eK6E7S4buVWIwt8X2kP5pNPpXpmLiuU/s320/IMG_3958.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Of course I've already got some spots that need some reverse sewing but for the most part I think it's pretty good for a first timer. And my friend who gets it will love it because she knows what goes into the making and finishing of a quilt...and she loves me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_NFCNchRPaTpIPxuO-25nayI2mPVGgo44pCsxIIwd0TdxPhYoLZglj9P-7qn02Xn5J_vh9F5CuxpYglPyXjqYf648I244hvKywsXhZ9Uh0IihN2hsCsH2FAWaSOIHGnOHhM4W8naKLa7_/s1600/IMG_3959.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_NFCNchRPaTpIPxuO-25nayI2mPVGgo44pCsxIIwd0TdxPhYoLZglj9P-7qn02Xn5J_vh9F5CuxpYglPyXjqYf648I244hvKywsXhZ9Uh0IihN2hsCsH2FAWaSOIHGnOHhM4W8naKLa7_/s320/IMG_3959.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">Here's a closeup of some of the stippling or meandering that I'm doing. I've got two more quilts to go on later so hopefully this will help me learn control and flow. I tend to want to hover right over the needle so it isn't doing my back any favors, but it's just so much fun!!</span></span><br />

I've never used one and haven't a lot of faith in my capabilities so we'll see how that works out, Send me luck, talent and a steady hand. Heck, while you're at it, send someone to do the quilting for me...PLEASE!! Anyway, in the meanwhile, you get another County Fair entry. <br />

Although I went three out of the four nights, I only remembered to take my camera on one of those days. Brilliant I know. <br />
Small livestock is in my top three places to visit. I have a weakness for chickens and bunnies. Some of the pictures turned out a bit blurry but I beg you humor me.<br />

</tbody></table>My title has a double meaning, I'm finally almost finished with my Florentine Fancy, just two more boarders to go, and my daughter and I are almost done with summer vacation. I'm back to school on the 16th and she's back later this month. Ug, time has just flown by! To be perfectly honest, I'd much rather not go back to school, it's been so nice not having a deadline looming over my head every week. Oh well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ0ao-Qo9TxdQ5TV9vT4nR4H7PSCyChVbxrNaE4b9BB8I3DmX5pOujocE-FxvOXCHHfiylSbQO-jdkZs1n_866XrPy9-5Dv49MEZx2gVx6pfrCpSJIhNqvd6eEuW-UIYq0YcyFylqe7uPO/s1600/IMG_3700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ0ao-Qo9TxdQ5TV9vT4nR4H7PSCyChVbxrNaE4b9BB8I3DmX5pOujocE-FxvOXCHHfiylSbQO-jdkZs1n_866XrPy9-5Dv49MEZx2gVx6pfrCpSJIhNqvd6eEuW-UIYq0YcyFylqe7uPO/s320/IMG_3700.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I've also started a new quilt, It's called a Carpenters Star. I'm making it for an old supervisor. We've not been in the same unit for years but we are still very close and she told me that she's retiring in September. Sad as it is, she's the only supervisor in my 11 year career that has taken a personal interest in me and been a true mentor. So this is the least I can do. <br />

</tbody></table> I'm really liking this pattern and may end up making one to keep. We'll see how much I get done in the next while, I'm supposed to work 9 days straight between my regular job and AF Reserves. Less than thrilled about that I can tell you. And to top it off, my Jeep died yesterday and at this point I'm not sure if it can be fixed. I guess the extra money from the work will either be helping to pay for repairs or a new car. :( <br />

I do, so I thought I'd share where I spend a lot of my time. I would love to introduce you to my favorite quilt shop (the fact that I work there may have something to do with it) Floyd & Lizzie’s, a local, family owned business that has been in the area for as long as I remember. They carry Husqvarna Viking, Baby Lock and PFAFF sewing machines as well as Tin Lizzie long arm quilting machines. As much as I love playing on all the different machines, I personally am more interested in the fabric. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">They cater to quilters, with 98% of their fabrics being quality cottons. Some are lovely, feel soft as silk, </span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">and </span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">have a lovely drape that makes them suitable for apparel as well as quilting.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">They recently moved into their brand new building at 2263 W 7800 South, West Jordan, UT, where the fabric shop is located on the main floor and TinLizzie (yes THE TinLizzie) Headquarters are located on the upper level. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Parking is easy to get on an average day but can get sticky when there are classes or sales.</span><br />

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"> </span><img height="356px;" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/z4-i0VhRVDCSI2Z1ssnpsiNscrotAMsCzCZqRV1cBAJ9ul6MAReFsWc7wzHk3BffrLRhixdm_3wts89RD08q8W3COlNTbUSxGjp7i-vzGmq0VM_gqCg" width="475px;" /><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">In the photo above, you can see the color wall. Every Monday I get to go in and organize it, and all the other fabric. Any guesses on how many bolt of fabric are up there? I haven't counted so your guess is as good as mine, I just know there’s lots and they certainly don’t skimp on the quality to get the quantity either. They have an "exclusive" line that they sell for $5.99/yard, can't beat that with a stick, and they have an amazing Batik collection. Here’s just one of the two sections. Yummy huh.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"> </span><img height="363px;" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/JdpUcAzG5UGz2m_2QmUI2VSoVkgEEJH6Ujke__HpIN7npO6e3vj_Wa6bf8pTT4YOxKXV9osz7QgeXPTn4eF4d86xJPobd3OYTqhBV9e89bIP4EXvcJs" width="484px;" /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"> </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The prices are average for quality cotton fabric, but all their new fabric lines go up front for 20% off until it rotates back and they are constantly having sales and sending out coupons via email and mailers. Plus they have a 60% up to 75% off area. I heart the discount shelf!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />

The moment you walk in the door you’re greeted. If you need help, they’re there to help, if you just want to wander about and pet the fabric that’s ok too, and they never complain about having to cut just a quarter yard from a stack of 20 different fabrics, (We're actually rather good at bulk cuts) They’re knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. And can I just say how much I love that even though they are machine dealers they aren’t trying to constantly shove a sale down your throat. There’s no pressure and no hype,.</span><br />

It took a back burner while we were getting ready for/on vacation so it's not as far along as I would like, and with the beautiful weather we've had I've not really wanted to hang out in my sewing room. I know, crazy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrSEmvSVcy2JKc3U3-PVLslRmMU9QighyphenhyphenghDQhuFhFg8rI_as5RjvEHEy1QsODNMDgx0CfAiNmRH_LORrXzMuLlrojmI8AJQN3zLthuvU1U-Fd9d3eVnLsXSZ3TVaEcCXs_FNFjKTSX5Pt/s1600/IMG_3692.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrSEmvSVcy2JKc3U3-PVLslRmMU9QighyphenhyphenghDQhuFhFg8rI_as5RjvEHEy1QsODNMDgx0CfAiNmRH_LORrXzMuLlrojmI8AJQN3zLthuvU1U-Fd9d3eVnLsXSZ3TVaEcCXs_FNFjKTSX5Pt/s320/IMG_3692.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
One of my problems is I also keep getting side tracked. I don't know about you, but I get going and am whizzing along then something (usually someone) comes in and interrupts me and then I can't get back in the groove.<br />

</div>Another thing that's slowing me is all the marking, and the fact that I can't waste fabric, so when I sew a corner triangle using a square, of which there are a great many in this pattern, (not sure the name of it, but the same technique as half square triangles)I have to sew a second seam to get the half square triangle. All of that is eating up my time, but they're looking pretty good<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1sgf1PnuogoYibkbqIInJ0RdN_40YcSMwQh7WK5kRj7F4JFjDD2og-Prc08YxNYe-xSR34tqbyuCnXdJN7BKwhBqdGXTdEs4ENViRYye4Jz8jWmJSgRm1GgxatdiUj1L9s4OvSZS3aV7C/s1600/IMG_3706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1sgf1PnuogoYibkbqIInJ0RdN_40YcSMwQh7WK5kRj7F4JFjDD2og-Prc08YxNYe-xSR34tqbyuCnXdJN7BKwhBqdGXTdEs4ENViRYye4Jz8jWmJSgRm1GgxatdiUj1L9s4OvSZS3aV7C/s320/IMG_3706.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>So today I finished the main body, matching up all the corners and angles has been a bugger but I'm rather surprised at how nice it's turned out. It's still not my style but it's not the eyesore I thought it would be. Now I just need to get the borders done then it's on to quilting and binding.Anitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5467284958935635987.post-45907193774679803142011-07-25T22:01:00.000-06:002011-07-25T22:01:51.542-06:00I Love Mail!It's like Christmas, look what arrived!!<br />

I mentioned that we recently went to Venice Beach, California for a family vacation, my fiance, daughter and me. This was the second time going and we just love it. We stay with a friend so don't have to worry about money for a hotel and the location couldn't be better, being just a block away from Venice Beach.<br />

Of course we did a lot of window shopping and I found inspiration in this adorable top. I'm now on the lookout for a cute, cotton, border print so I can hopefully duplicate it.<br />

As I started reading more and more blogs I decided that I wanted it to become a crafty/quilty blog, but now I'm thinking that I'm going to go back to my roots so to speak. I'm not giving up my crafting or quilting by any means, I'm just rounding things out more. Consider yourself warned.<br />
Now on with life.<br />

We were on the beach, at sunset, when my wonderful boyfriend got down on his knees and asked me to become his wife. After opening and shutting my mouth like a beached fish without managing to get a word out I nodded a heartfelt yes. So, I'M ENGAGED!!!! <br />

We're looking at next summer for the wedding, there isn't enough summer left to plan and save and I refuse to get married when it's cold. <br />
So that's the latest and greatest goings on here. Expect more from meAnitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04649138075241823775noreply@blogger.com4
